ISA Membership Categories
Application Process : After all the required documents are received and approved by the ISA Executive Committee (EC), the EC will issue a letter recognizing the applying organization as an "Applying Member" of the ISA. After such decision by the EC of the ISA, the applying NGB will start to receive ISA newsletters and will be allowed to participate in ISA events.
The NGB will remain as an "Applying Member" at least, until the next ISA BGM (Biennial General Meeting). If a candidate wishes to participate in an ISA event, all application documents must be sent to ISA at least 60 days prior to the date of the event in which candidate wishes to participate.
Applying NGBs will have to submit a detailed report on its activities up until the BGM when the permanent status will be examined and voted upon. This report must be submitted no later than 30 days before such BGM.
Non-Participating New Members: Have never participated in events or in meetings, and have expressed no interest in such participation, will be able to become non-voting, non-participatory members at the lowest established annual fee of US$50.00/year.
If NGB decides to participate in any ISA event and/or vote in any ISA meeting, they will need to pay the US$500.00/year fee to become a participatory member. Once the NGB participates/competes in ANY ISA event, they will never be able to go back to the lowest fee of US$50/year.
Participating New Members: Have never participated in events or in meetings but have expressed interest in such participation will be able to become voting and participatory members at the annual membership fee of US$500.00/year
Non-Participating Current members that have never participated in events or in meetings, and have expressed no interest in such participation will be able to become non-voting, non-participatory members at the lowest established annual membership fee of US$50.00/year.
(If member currently has significant past dues payable to ISA and would like to become a member with this status, member will be charged a one-time fee of US$500 for the debts ISA will write off).

Paticipating Current members that have participated in contests or meetings and have expressed their desire to remain members, but lack proper funding to pay past debts and/or future fees will be assessed and dealt with by the ISA Executive Committee on a case by case basis. Such NGB’s must provide to the ISA Executive Committee, a full written explanation/motivation outlining their problems, prior to the meeting where membership issues are to be discussed.
- Participating Current Members ranked #17 and below in previous World Surfing Games will pay an annual membership fee of US$500.00/year.
- Participating Current Members ranked #1 – 16 in previous World Surfing Games will pay an annual membership fee of US$1000.00/year.
Supplemental Information
- $50/year members will receive a recognition certificate to provide for government use, monthly ISA Newsletters, press releases and the ISA Rulebook. Member may access/download Judging Courses.
- $50/year members will not have to upgrade to a full participating ISA member if it wishes to compete in a regional event, (i.e. ESF Championships, African Cup, Panamerican Surfing Games, etc.).
- Individual competitors from non-ISA affiliated nations and $50/year members will be able to enter ISA sanctioned events if it is not a team entry event, (i.e. ISA World Masters Event). Only full paying, competing member nations will be able to participate in a team entry event, such as a World Surfing Games or Junior Event.
